Room 4G had a successful first field trip to the Arnold Arboretum! In small groups, student scientists discovered, collected, observed and even dissected a variety of seeds to learn about the ways they are dispersed throughout nature. Hand magnifying glasses in tow, students discovered a large diversity of seeds including exploders, floaters, and shakers. Using tools, students opened up (i.e. cracked, pried and smushed!) different pods and made hypotheses about how the seeds on the inside might travel to their final destination. Feel free to ask your local 4G seed expert for information about seeds that travel by wind, water, and animals!
A very special thank you goes to all of the amazing parent chaperones who joined us on our field trip today--Ms. Morrissey, Ms. Knowlton, Ms. Yung, Mr. Benavidez, Ms. Mann, Ms. Sullivan, Ms. Hughes and Ms. Mehrabi. You made our great adventure possible! In addition to getting us to and from the Arboretum, you helped by engaging in all of today's activities and pushing your children's thinking through questions and discussion!
