Every great fourth grade writer needs their own Writer's Notebook-- a place to flesh out ideas, try out new writing strategies, and simply let their creative juices flow. On Friday, students "launched" their Writer's Notebook by reflecting on the history of their names: Why were they given their particular name or nickname? What meaning does it have? What stories connect to their names? After writing, students shared their very personal (and sometimes surprising, funny, and touching) entries with their classmates, which gave us a chance to learn even more about each other. And to top it off, we were lucky enough to get a special visit from our Vice Principal Mr. Fowler who graciously shared with us the history of his own name!
